Winnebago Rv | Witnesses Say George Dean Ignored Police Orders Prior To Shooting
Dean had borrowed it from the landlord for a few days and returned it recently. But he had taken the gun back again.
“I’ll write a note that clears you, one that says you don’t know that I have the gun,” Richard Miller said Dean told him.
Miller wasn’t sure what Dean meant until he heard the first round fired from his backyard later that afternoon.
Dean is accused of taking aim at neighbors in his Dixieland neighborhood and firing shots in an alley between West Patterson and Park streets. When Lakeland officers arrived, he ignored orders to drop the weapon, authorities said, and an officer shot him in the torso.

Dean, 64, has been at Lakeland Regional Medical Center since the shooting and is expected to survive, police said Tuesday. He is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm on an officer and five counts of aggravated assault.
Miller, who has allowed Dean to live in a Winnebago RV parked in the backyard of his West Patterson Street home for about two years, said Dean is a kind person who often struggles with depression.
A knee injury had sidelined Dean’s career as a commercial painter. Neighbors said he could be found most days making his way around the neighborhood with the help of a cane, walking Pepper, his pet Chihuahua.
After drinking Monday afternoon, however, Dean seemed overcome with anger.
Miller thinks the shooting was premeditated, he said, but that Dean never intended to injure anyone. The first shots he fired were aimed at the ground, Miller said.
“Right at that moment, he was just mad at the whole world,” he said.
Residents living in apartments across the alley from Dean’s Winnebago said he emerged from his RV in a rage.
